Secret Wish for Death

Two wealthy Beverly Hills brothers now admit that they walked into their living room years ago, leveled shotguns at their parents seated in front of the television set and fired. But they contend they did so only in self-defense after years of sexual and psychological abuse.

The murder trial of the brothers, Lyle and Erik Menendez, occured in Los Angeles Superior Court after three years of legal debate over the admissibility of a psychotherapist’s tape-recorded notes of a session in which Erik Menendez confessed to the killings. The State Supreme Court ruled the tapes admissible.

The killing on Aug. 20, 1989, of Jose Menendez, 45, a Cuban emigre who had become an entertainment executive, and his wife, Kitty, 47, shocked the quiet, manicured neighborhood where they lived in a $4 million home. Mr. Menendez was shot five times, once in the back of the head; his wife was shot 10 times.

Everyday there are cases of people that are waiting for a spouse, parent, sibling, relative or friend to die to cash in on their Insurance Policy. Some have dreamed about what they will do with all the money once the check cashes.
