In an attempt to protect ourselves from hurt or offenses, we find ourselves imprisoned within our walls, unable to relate deeply to those around us. Our focus is turned inward and introspective. We guard our rights and personal relationships carefully. Our energy is consumed with making sure no future injuries or hurts will occur. Yet if we cannot risk being hurt, we cannot give nor receive unconditional love.

The US military’s ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy, signed by former president Bill Clinton in 1993, policy prohibits anyone who “demonstrate(s) a propensity or intent to engage in homosexual acts” from serving in the armed forces because “it would create an unacceptable risk to the high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion that are the essence of military capability.”

In 1992, the death of Seaman Allen Schindler brought the issue of gay service members into the public arena. Pres. Clinton introduced the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy under compromise with legislators who opposed a complete repeal of the 1982 Department of Defense Directive 1332.14, the military’s prior ban on gays in the military.

The U.S. Senate voted 65 to 31 December 18 2010 to repeal the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell act, sending President Obama legislation to overturn the policy and allow gays to serve openly in the military.

“By ending ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’ no longer will our nation be denied the service of thousands of patriotic Americans forced to leave the military, despite years of exemplary performance, because they happen to be gay,” President Obama said in a statement today. “And no longer will many thousands more be asked to live a lie in order to serve the country they love.”

Amanda Simpson, a former test pilot for Raytheon, has been named to the Bureau of Industry and Security as Senior Technical Advisor by President Barack Obama.  Simpson, who now identifies as a female, was nominated by the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE).
 
In a news release from NCTE, Simpson expressed hope to “soon be one of hundreds (of transgender presidential appointees).”
 
“Is there going to be a transgender quota now in the Obama administration?” asked Peter LaBarbera, president of Americans for Truth.  “How far does this politics of gay and transgender activism go? Clearly this is an administration that is pandering to the gay lobby.”
 
According to most estimates, “transgender” individuals account for less than a fraction of 1 percent of the population. Yet, LaBarbera said, they have convinced the Obama administration to affirm their position that gender is fluid and changeable.
 
“We should consider what transgender activism is about,” he said,” which is essentially recognizing civil rights based on gender confusion.”
 
Matt Barber, associate dean at Liberty University, said the appointment “boggles the mind.”
 
“This isn’t like appointing an African-American in order to try to provide diversity and right some kind of discriminatory wrong,” he said.  “This is about political correctness.
 
“President Obama, before he was inaugurated, told the world that he had signed off on every single demand of the homosexual-activist lobby.”
 
LaBarbera said it’s just another way to normalize homosexuality and transgenderism.
 
“It’s always the incremental change that keeps moving forward and keeps getting more radical,” he said. “It’s hard for the American people to keep up.”
